Take a Royal Designer for Industry seizing traditional British style with a contemporary approach of shape/attitude, combine him with a London based half Portugal, half Spanish rooted company specialized in hand crafting and traditional construction methods to create modern furniture with timeless appeal and the warmth of solid wood.
The result was presented this September at 100% Design when De La Espada launched more products with acclaimed British designer, Matthew Hilton. Five new designs launched including Fracture Coffee Table, Light Side Table, Manta Chair, Tapas Chair, and Hepburn Sofa.





Matthew Hilton started young being noticed by important figures in fashion industries, like Paul Smith and Koji Tatsuno who embraced his early creations, taking them into their showrooms.
In 2000 Matthew was appointed Head of Furniture Design at Habitat and continues to work as a consultant for the company. His work at Habitat involved designing key product ranges, working on new product strategy and managing the design work of the furniture team.
And in 2003 he got nominated for Compasso d’Oro with his already iconic chair, Wait done for German plastics company Authentics.
Short after, Matthew was appointed a Royal Designer for Industry, by The Royal Society of Arts, UK which is awarded to designers who have achieved “sustained excellence in aesthetic and efficient design for industry”.
Last year he started Mathew Hilton company with a desire to gain complete creative control, coordinating boths processes – the concept and the manufacturing.
Very soon after, Matthew Hilton Ltd made its first licence agreement for manufacturing and distribution of the products with De La Espada.
